MOLINA PROJECT

For $25 dollars you can sponsor the purchase of a "Molina" for a needy Q’eqchi family to be delivered on our next trip in Jan. of 2010. A Molina is a basic grinder which is used primarily for corn to make tortillas. The average family is too poor to purchase such an expensive item so they hand work the corn into a paste.

This is a very difficult undertaking and requires a lot more time. The gift of a Molina to a deserving family would improve their day to day lives and last for many years to come. Link to a sponsorship form can be found at the bottom of this page.

The beginning of this project

This project idea was brought to us in the form of a petition by a Women’s group which represents the various village communities throughout the Lanquin area. The group discussed what might be needed the most and their answer was the molina. This is a very simple project which will greatly affect the lucky family who will receive one, and at only $25 dollars, affordable by almost anyone.

A molina to grind the corn, then they roll the paste into a tortilla, and finally cook then over their stove.

If you are interested in sponsoring a family with the gift of a molina, open and complete this form for a sponsorship application, or contact us for more details.
